I used to run with the Hash House Harriers with friends back in 2002. It was always a fun run. I've been to Changi Sailing Club run, Kampung Chantek run, Dutch Club run, Seletar, Sembawang and few more which I can't remember.

A hash is a running activity that is a mixture of a cross country running and treasure hunt. A trail is laid, normally using toilet paper by the ‘hares’ a day before or prolly 10 minutes before the actual run. The trail is not necessary continuous and has a good mixture of challenging terrain, false and missing trail thrown in. The pack or harriers meet at an appointed time and place, and then run the trail from the start to the finish. Usually it would be in a forested or woody area, where the run would be made difficult. It could be uphill or in longkangs.

The important part of the run is that the harriers need to communicate with each other. Team work is most important. Many a time, I saw female runners fell into a drain, or sprained their ankle, or just need a hand or a push to climb up a muddy hill.

Otherwise known as luck, the harriers will try to make some sense out of the hares’ handiwork. If the hares laid the trail a day before, and it rained during the night, the pack will have a hell of a time to figure out where to run, from rummaging through the forested area for pieces of toilet papers. The terrain covered varies from really swampy to swanky city runs.

At the end of the run, they will assemble in circle to do a postmortem of the run, afterwhich they will proceed to On-on, either at the site by Mr Hoe or to a nearby eateries. Mr Hoe, the veteran caterer for the HHH will always be ready with his famous fish and chips, of course the men will have their drinks.

The interesting part of this club or committee is that all members were given names, a lot of the times, the names were not that easy to the ears, but they proudly own the name given. Few examples would be :

Hard Licker
Longfellow
Green Piss
F*%king Loretta
One Buck F**k
Mudsucker
Numb Butt
Teeny Weeney Willy
Dripping Bush
Mr Singapore
Ball Catcher

To name a few.

How I wish we could organise similar run with our Klaz78 group. It would be fun to have a weekly sporting activities rather than meeting with only food on the table. I need to get up and shake my butt *ehem* weight off.

There is another meeting of food and chats this Saturday... my oh my... and I am suppose to lose weight!
