While reading through blogs, I have realized that people can't spell anymore. It used to be bad grammar, but now its bad grammar plus bad spelling. SMS lingo is creeping off mobile phones and into school essays and homework, changing English as we know it

A normal greetings of "Great to see you" has become "Gr8 2CU". It is like a code-word of some sort or a name of an android from Star Wars flick.

"U look gr8 2day r u cming 2 mvies wif me" is quicker to bash out than: "You look great today. Are you coming to the movies with me?" These much anticipated abbreviations and their accompanying lack of punctuation now come automatically to much of the younger generation and are changing the way children write at school.

It really worries me to see even middle age persons write with similar pattern. I am always very conscious about my writing. Always pay extra attention to grammar and spelling. With the spell-check facilities provided by Microsoft, it makes my life much easier.

Every time I see bad spelling with the sms-lish, it makes me wonder where the English language is going and will the younger generation be able to write a report or a good financial presentation when they start working, and start climbing that corporate ladder.
