Jom tangkap spider.
Ijat and Shidi with their wrestlers.
Remember when you were little and you went into the shrubs and bushes nearby to look for spiders and put them inside a match box? That was one of the things that we kampung kids did back then. The technology back when I was a small girl was as high tech as the black and white tv that the villagers gathered at one house to watch the Sumpah Pontianak movie.
Back from school with the laden of heavy school bag, I would stop at the shrubs of pokok daun tempeh in front of rumah Kak Burok, at the tanah merah, just to look for spiders so that I can have spider-fight with Leman, adik Asli.
Nowadays, kids are more prone to sit infront of the tv with PS2, or infront of the computer to chat with online friends via internet. Very rarely do they meet their friends face to face to have a normal growing up activities. That's what contribute to obesity. Lack of exercises.
Zaifan Naim or Tipan as we know him for instance, has just celebrated his 7th birthday, his grandad gave him a $400 PSP. I think that was too much for a 7th years old kid. What can top that ? next year, the only thing that I can think of, that his grandad can presents him, is a girl. And he is set for life.
I don't know if kids nowadays know the value of money anymore.
I wish, I have a time travel machine, so that I can bring my kids back in time. The simple kampong life, with layang layang when the day is windy, or naik kolek when the tide is high, main rounders that makes you run for your dear life, police and thief so that we can run around the village into mud and swamps. Just the simple way of life.
Jom, tangkap speder.
