Under the Coconut Trees on the Beach Front

Old YISS friends met again for another small get together yesterday. The sky was bleak, that it didn’t stop the children from having fun. It looked like the rain will fall at anytime, but berkat doa everyone, the sky hold its rain until we packed up for the day.

The day started with me in the kitchen with the blueberry muffin batter on the counter, the brownies in the oven and the French toast hot-dog on the stove. The rain had not stop since the night before, and I was a little worried. The nasi lemak have already been packed in individual packets of 15, so that actually gave me a little ease but if the rain continues, I wouldn’t know what to do with all the food. So, I made a call to my good friend to see if we can have an alternative plan, but the rest of the gang refused to budge. So, East Coast Park still it will be.

With Nasi Lemak, blueberry muffins, dark chocolate brownies, French toasts hot-dogs, big canvas sheet, water container, video and digital cameras, 3 children in tow and Jazz, we packed and staked into the SUV and went to pick up Umairah at Yung Loh Road and gave her parents a lift to Joo Chiat complex. It was a cramped SUV with people and stuff, but otherwise a fun journey. It is always nice to have family and friends close tightly together.

At 12.30 pm, we were the first to arrive at the beach, although the plan to be there was 11 am. Jamilah Awang was waiting for us at Macdonald just to pass the kole-kole that I love so much, to add to the list of food. Thanks Milah.

We’ve managed to secure a good spot near the beach, among the row of tents lining the beach front. While Jazz and the boys went to buy ice for the lime juice, they hooked up with Hanafi who came to be with us for a short while. Thanks for your contribution, my friend.

Came from behind the row of tents, was our ex-classmate Juriah. She was there with her family, an unplanned trip but glad she was able be with us. Her daughter who was badly injured in a traffic accident was there too, I am so happy to see that she is up and about in after just 6 months. The last time we visited her at home, she was bed-bound, with all the spikes and screws in her tummy and legs. She still has screws and steel in her abdomen to support her back, and the bag for her waste on her waist, the very prominent stitches scar on her legs, but the good thing about her, she is very positive and strong to fight, and her will to overcome her difficulties.

In a short while, came Saharimah and Liza with the families. The concrete table where we placed our food became too cramped. Mee goreng, bubor cha-cha, maggi pizza, teh ‘O’, rose syrup, adds to the list of food. Then Saharidah, came along with epok-epok putar, kentang and sardine, and sambal bun.

The list of food getting longer with Rohana's mee hoon putih, and fruit cocktail jelly. Noraini bought banana and rambutan, Sulina came with mee hoon putih, friend chicken wings and milo ice.

Along came Khatijah and Roslan on their bike.

It was a feast alright.

Despite the cloudy sky, we had fun chatting away, and rekindling the schooldays, and making future plans for another get together. The children were having fun swimming under the watchful eyes of Jazz and Nordin, although Nordin, retired after a short while, to have a shut eyes with Musa, in the challenge of 'who snores the loudest' and 'who sleeps the longest'.

The “No Swimming for the Children” fell on deaf ears, and we ended up buying new sets of clothing for the girls.

We ended the day at the beach at around 6.30 pm, and sent Umairah home in the SUV and had our Maghrib’s prayers at Hasman’s before we headed home at 10.00 pm. Everyone was tired, but we had a jolly good time ! The best thing is that Ani and Hasman bought for us turtle eggs from Pasar Geylang... yeeeaaahhhh... I love turtle eggs.
