Erin came home with a somber looking face.

My mind started racing, and trying to figure out what had happened, probably a squabble with her friend in the school bus, or this particular friend was making fun of her again, as she always does.

When I asked her what happened, she said:

"Mama, next time when you have a canned drink, could you save the can and give it to me?"

"Sure, why not? But why?", I said, thinking that she might need some soda cans for a school project or homework.

The answer was not what I expected. It seemed that at school, while playing with the her friends during reccess, they come upon an empty soft drink can which one of her friends then picked up.

Not knowing what her friend intended to do with it, Erin told her friend to throw it into the wastebin because that is what they suppose to do with waste or empty soft drink can to keep the school clean.

"Buanglah tin tu...", Erin said.

"Tak, saya nak jual tin ni. Dapat duit", her friend said. This was her friend who comes from a family of ten or eleven children and we'd hear once in a while how she'd be short of money for normal expenses or sometimes has no money for reccess.

Erin wants to give all soft drink cans that she could get her hands on to her friend so that her friend could sell them and get some money.

"Next time when we go and watch Papa's team play soccer at JJC, can we get canned drinks instead of the normal plastic bottle, so I can keep the can and give it to my friend?"

I must have done something right with that daughter of mine.

Anyone's got any empty soft drink can to give away?
